Frequently Asked Questions

Radon placement guidelines

EPA Protocol recommends placing the device in the lowest lived-in level of the home (for example, the basement if it is frequently used, otherwise the first floor). Test in a room used regularly (like a living room, playroom, den, or breedroom), but not your kitchen or bathroom. Set the device at least 20 inches above the floor in a location where it won’t be disturbed—away from drafts, high heat, high humidity, and exterior walls. For more information on device testing and placement, visit https://ecosense.io/pages/how-to-test-your-home-for-radon-guide

What are considered safe ranges for radon?

EPA recommends homes be fixed if the radon level is 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter) or more. Because there is no known safe level of radon exposure, EPA also recommends that you consider fixing the home for radon levels between 2 pCi/L and 4 pCi/L. The World Health Organization recommends remedial action when average concentrations are at or above 2.7 pCi/L (100 Bq/m3)

Interpreting varied radon test results

Radon levels continuously fluctuate seasonally and throughout the day as temperature and changing weather impact the rate soil gasses are drawn into your home. Therefore, to get the clearest understanding of your exposure, it is recommended to monitor the radon levels continuously for at least 90 days. Test devices should be located in the “breathing zone” at least 20 inches above the floor and at least 3 feet (0.9 meters) from an exterior wall. Do not place the test device on stone hearths or countertops.

I have a spike in radon level, what causes this?

Check the measurement environment for nearby devices with Electromagnetic interference (EMI) such as microwave, Wi-Fi router. Also it can be affected by materials where the device is placed such as granite.

At what radon level should I take action?

In the U.S., the EPA recommends taking action at 4 pCi/L or higher. However, there’s no completely “safe” level of radon. Many experts recommend considering mitigation at levels above 2 pCi/L.

Should I be concerned about radon in basements vs. upper floors?

Radon is heaviest at lower levels because it seeps from the ground. Basements or first floors typically have higher readings. Still, radon can move throughout a home, so testing the most frequently used living areas is important.

Why do radon levels fluctuate

Below are the reasons why radon levels fluctuate:
- Temperature differences: indoors vs. outdoors
- Home sealing and insulation levels
- Insufficient home ventilation systemIncreased heating in colder seasonsWeather conditions like snow, ice, or rain
- Decreased airflow during inactivity or sleep Home occupancy patternsVariations in atmospheric pressure

What is My Radon Analysis and how does it work?

My Radon Analysis is a free subscription-based, self-guided testing feature within the EcoQube app that lets you run a 72-hour radon test using your EcoQube device—no lab fees, appointments, or third-party scheduling required. This service is currently available only in the United States.

Does the My Radon Analysis qualify as a certified radon test?

While the My Radon Analysis offers highly accurate data using the EcoQube’s advanced sensor technology, it is not currently considered a certified radon test for real estate transactions or official regulatory purposes. Certified tests typically require devices and protocols approved by the EPA or state radon programs, often conducted by licensed professionals or using mail-in lab analysis.Disclaimer:
This test result is provided for informational purposes only and should not be considered a certified or professional assessment. We do not assume any legal responsibility for decisions or actions taken based on these results. For accurate radon testing and mitigation, consult a certified radon professional. That said, My Radon Analysis is ideal for personal use—it’s perfect for monitoring your home’s radon levels, spotting trends, and making informed decisions about mitigation or further professional testing if needed. This service is currently available only in the United States.

My EcoQube cannot connect to Wi-Fi, what should I do?

👉 Watch video: How to Reconnect Your EcoQube Smart Radon Monitor to WiFi

Confirm that you have a 2.4 GHz network. EcoQube only supports 2.4 GHz and does not currently support 5 GHz-only wireless networks. If you have a dual band Wi-Fi router, make sure you have not enabled 5 GHz steering. Make sure your EcoQube device is within your wireless network’s range. For example, walls and floors can weaken your router’s signal - decreasing its range. If Wi-Fi searching is taking long time, please click the refresh button on the top right corner. This will restart the Wi-Fi network search and after a short period will display list of available 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. Please select the desired Wi-Fi network from this list.

Here is a list of troubleshooting steps we recommend if this does not occur within a few minutes. After pairing with your smartphone’s Bluetooth connection, EcoQube’s LED light color will change from orange to green. As EcoQube attempts to connect to a network, the LED light will begin blinking until the connection is complete.

i. Ensure your mobile device is within Bluetooth range (approximately 25 feet)
ii. Ensure EcoQube is within range of your wireless network
iii. Ensure that the WiFi password is correct
iv. Initiate a Power Cycle or Reboot by unplugging EcoQube for 20 seconds
v. Initiate a Factory Reset by pressing the button for 20 seconds
vi. Disconnect other devices connected to your network and try again
vii. Restart your wireless router

How often can I switch it to each floor in my home?

You can change the installation location. If you are going to install it in one place and check the radon level, we suggest that you keep it for about a week if possible. Ventilation, temperature, and operation of A/C and heater can also affect it, and in many cases, there is a big difference in radon concentration between day and night.

What happens to saved data if I decide to move the EcoBlu to another room?

When you move the device and start measuring in a different location, the device resets in R, W, and M modes, and you can get new readings.
